LOTOJA (lotojaclassic.com) has come up as one suggestion. I tried to get into that 2 years ago but wasn't selected. I didn't realize it is the longest single day sanctioned race and that certainly adds to the interest. My friend, Jill, and I rode what we were told is the hardest hill of that ride as part of a century ride. Perhaps it's time to go back up there...

Glen, you are such an awesome father!

In regards to making accurate predictions, I love the metaphor "Making Beliefs Pay Rent (in Anticipated Experiences)". It is something I picked up from http://lesswrong.com/lw/i3/making_beliefs_pay_rent_in_anticipated_experiences/

Here's the conclusion of the post: "Above all, don't ask what to believe - ask what to anticipate. Every question of belief should flow from a question of anticipation, and that question of anticipation should be the center of the inquiry. Every guess of belief should begin by flowing to a specific guess of anticipation, and should continue to pay rent in future anticipations. If a belief turns deadbeat, evict it."

After asking about HEED at the first bike store, we stopped at a bike repair shop just down the street, and the woman there told us to be careful with our bikes because she thought there were lots of bike thieves around. So when we stopped for lunch a little while later we made sure that our bikes were well attached to a handicapped parking signpost. I'm just glad I wasn't carrying the 10 lbs. of heavy duty lock and cable!
We had dinner from Dairy Queen. I got a bacon cheeseburger, a shake and onion rings. That was a mistake. Glen got something less greasy (a BLT maybe?) I was really drained by the end of that day and I would've done better the following day if I'd gotten something with more carbs.

Great write up!

You definitely look better in my glasses than I do. I think it's my weird looking hair!

Here's a couple of interesting things I remember from that day:

- The campgroud we stayed at the first night required a cash deposit to get a key to the bathroom & showers. I gave the cashier my last $5 bill. I didn't get it back because when we were ready to go, the office was still closed. Oh well.

- We stopped for lunch at a coffee shop/cafe in a tiny tourist town called Madeira Park. There were two women running it who were a bit ditsy. I ordered french toast and a mocha to drink. They forgot to make my mocha and I had to remind them. We ate outside on the front porch. It was good weather, and Glen could be within 10 ft. of his bike :-) After we finished eating there were no other customers so the women from the cafe came outside and we chatted for about half an hour or so.

- The campsite we stayed at that night was covered with slugs. I remember the showers took a "loonie" to turn on. Kind of annoying when you've paid for a campsite, you shouldn't have to pay more to take a shower!
